I remember my last ride without saddle or bridle. I did not know that he had been ridden several times that day and was not in the best of moods. Esquivel immediately ran for a line of olive trees in an attempt to scrape my off his back. How I managed to say on, I cannot remember. But I remember that my tee shirt was in tatters and my back was bleeding. I wiped him down and curry combed him… he forgave me. And I have a memory of a wild ride.
Horses don’t just accept everything from us. They have their own opinions and attitudes.
I grew up riding bareback. And used a hackamore instead of a bridle.
