From next table, I heard a word:
‘Keep things neat
Use a napkin & stay tidy while you eat’
To the ear, it was an annoying discord

I’ve heard that said to children and once to an elderly lady. My heart went out to her.
I can imagine.
I don’t know if it is a good thing, to help save paper, or because we don’t use linen in schools….There are so many reasons I could list, but kids aren’t taught to put a napkin in their laps. Funny because I don’t recall being taught to do it at home, only in a restaurant.
In my young years, I was taught to use a linen napkin on my lap. I rarely use them now.
Even at home I have a napkin on each leg and one on the table. I’m not a neat freak but maybe I’m super messy? Lol, not sure what I’m thinking.
